Rest

by Candice Y. Johnson

 Speak softly, chile

So they don’t hear you comin’

Waitin’ on the other side of rapture

The sound of their guns being cocked, sends you runnin’

Pray on,

Just a little while longer

Run on,

Stay strong,

A change is gonna come

While you’re waitin’ on the rainbow,

The Promise,

Don’t you get weary

Or stop chasin’

The Son

Shhh…

Don’t breathe

Shhh…

Don’t you cry

Better days are coming

Keep your head lifted to the sky

Your flesh is rippin’

Heart failing,

Faith flailing,

But hold on,

Troubles won’t last

No matter in this life or the next

Is where it all comes to an end

Sweet baby,

You’re going to pass the test

It’s comin’ for you, baby

It tastes like sweet rest

Don’t you cry no more,

Sweet rest is on its way

Don’t you stop prayin’

Don’t you stop fightin’

Don’t you stop believin’

Don’t you stop heedin’

Don’t you stop movin’

Till it comes

Hush, sweet chile

Keep on walkin’ till you see the SON
